A Mortgage
In Breathless Haste, Rebecca and Jay share thirty stories of how they found God in ordinary life. In this story, Jay and Rebecca had felt that God was calling them to move from their home, friends and church to Chicago. There, Jay would work as an intern at a church and attend seminary. He would not get paid during this time, so it was stressful trying to lease/sell their home and then rent another place in Chicago. Jay had an amazing phone call with a friend, and it gave them more confidence that God was at work in every part of this situation.
A Meeting
In our book, Breathless Haste, we share 30 stories of how we found God in ordinary life. In this story, Rebecca shares how her husband encouraged her to seek guidance and help to navigate her new life far from home. The meeting turned into providing her purpose and work for the next seven years. Without a doubt, God had opened the door for this meeting, spiritual growth and spiritual purpose for her life.
Dan Allender - A Speaker
In our book, we share 30 stories of how we found God in our ordinary lives. In this story, Rebecca shares about hearing Dan Allender say that our whole story matters to God. That idea penetrated Rebecca's heart and led her to dig into her life story and eventually led to her purpose and calling with the development of Listen to My Life with Sibyl Towner and Sharon Swing. A Song
In our book, we share 30 stories of how we found God in Ordinary Life. This story is how we heard God tug at our heart through a song. At mid-life, my husband was filling God calling him to ministry and calling him to an internship in Chicago - far away from our home in SC. We went away to attend an internship weekend to learn more about it. At one point we were in a small, dark conference room, the internship director prayed using the exact same words— “created to be and created to do”—that I had read at 4:30 a.m. in The Power of a Praying Wife a few weeks earlier. We then sat quietly to process and pray, as a song titled “Open Up” by Greg and Corinne Ferguson played in the background.
Dallas Willard and A Bankruptcy
In our book, Breathless Haste, we share 30 stories of how we found God in Ordinary Life. This story revolves around a very difficult financial mess that was leading towards bankruptcy for my family. I met with Dallas Willard to discuss the situation, and he gave me some incredible wisdom for our next step. Shortly after I met with him, I also got some additional wisdom from scripture. The full story - including how it ended - can be read in Chapter 10.
My 97-Year-Old Mother's Inspiration!
For years many people along the way have encouraged Jay and me to write a book, but we ignored their advice for years and years. However, when COVID hit, I decided it was time to at least try to write a book. This is the story of how my mom influenced us to write the book - together. Because of her influence and wisdom, we followed through on her advice and the book is dedicated to her.

A few months after this event, Rebecca and Jay were expecting.

In this story, Rebecca tells the story of creating scrapbooks with HIV/Aids families in Malawi, and how she encountered God in the midst of meeting RABECCA.
A Baby Bonnet
In Breathless Haste, we share 30 stories of how we found God in our ordinary life. In this story, Jay shares how God confirmed that this interview at a church in Atlanta was indeed - without a doubt - the next place for us to serve and work. The moment we heard about a baby bonnet being in the church's cornerstone, it resonated deeply within our hearts and souls, for we too had experienced the pain of losing a child in infancy.
A Dangerous Trip
Here Jay shares the beginning of the story of how his heart opened up for the people for Malawi, Africa. He was never able to get those kids off his mind. This story has unfolded into a 15 year ministry that has provided for 1000 students to graduate from high school and this year, we will celebrate the 100th college graduate! The Beginning of a Miracle
Here Rebecca describes the heartache of her daughter's heart diagnosis before birth - just a couple years after her son had died after heart surgery. The story continues with her birth in Michigan and then the incredible miraculous news that they received shortly after her birth. Jay was able to be a father again,
