Jay and I were feeling pulled in two different directions. We wanted to be with the family for the beach week, which we loved, and we wanted to celebrate with my parents, but we were also facing heavy decisions about Neale’s surgery. Her due date was only thirty days away. Nervously, we decided to go. We needed an escape, and the distraction would be good.
One morning, I saw Jay in the distance in front of the house sitting on the sand, staring at the ocean for an extended period of time. When he returned, I asked him if he was able to find any answers out there.
He replied, “I didn’t find any answers, but I know that the One who created that ocean has the answers.”
He reasoned that if God has the power to create that ocean, those tides, and the sky, sun, and earth that surrounded them, then he must also have power over all of creation and human life. I was thankful that Jay thought that God had the answers, and I guess I believed that too. I just wasn’t sure that His answers were the answers I desired.
