Bublish Metrics Explained: A Q&A with Founder Kathy Meis

A number of you have asked for a more detailed explanation of the “Author Metrics” found at the top of your Bublish Authorpreneur Dashboard. We’ve lined up your questions, and posed them to Bublish Founder Kathy Meis You can see her responses below.

As a point of reference, here’s what the “Author Metrics” look like on the Authorpreneur Dashboard:

Now, on to the Q&A with Bublish Founder Kathy Meis:

Q:  What is a Bubble View?

Kathy: A Bubble View appears in your Author Metrics when someone engages with one of your book bubbles. Here are some scenarios of how this happens: a reader encounters a link to you book bubble either on Twitter, Facebook, email, bublish.com or somewhere else. They click on that link to view and engage with your book bubble. For example, here’s a link to a book bubble by NY Times bestselling author/ghostwriter Joni Rodgers. If you clicked the link to Joni’s bubble, you’ve given her one view.

Q: Do Bubble Views only happen when I share my book bubbles with my social followers?

Kathy: No, Bubble Views happen in a variety of ways:

1. When you share your bubbles with your followers on Twitter, Facebook, or other social networks.

2. When Bublish shares your bubbles with our community of followers. We support our authors with daily retweets (just include @BublishMe in your tweet, so we can see it), inclusion of the newest bubbles in our Weekend Reader Marathons (we encourage authors to create at least one new bubble each week), The Bublish Floating Bookstore, through email campaigns, our “Bubble of the Week” selection, and automated emails through our Follow feature (more on this below).

3. When other social browsers, discover, read and enjoy your book bubble … then, share it with their followers. With about 50,000 Bubble Views a week, Bublish puts a lot of eyes on your work.

Q: My Author Metrics show I’ve had Bubble Views via email. However, I’ve never sent a bubble via email. How can this be?

Kathy: There are three ways bubbles can be viewed via email:

1. Readers can share your bubbles via email.

2. Your bubble might have been selected as our “Bubble of the Week”. Once a month, we email readers with those selections.

3. Bublish automatically shared your Book Bubble via email. Through Bublish’s Follow feature, readers who follow you on Bublish automatically receive author-branded emails when you create a new book bubble. You don’t have to lift a finger to make this happen. It’s all automated. Bublish’s technology handles everything. If readers click the link in the email from Bublish, you’ll see that view show up under “email” in your Bubble Views. We encourage all our authors to ask readers to follow them on Bublish. It’s a very powerful feature that turns social engagements into permissioned email marketing relationships, so you can convert curious readers into lifelong fans. Here’s what these author-branded emails look like…

Q: My views were going up and up, then suddenly dropped. How can my views actually do down?

Kathy: Here’s why that happens: if you notice in the Author Metrics image at the top of this post, there is a small tab above the Profile Views that reads, “Last 90 Days”. That is the default time frame for your Author Metrics. You can click the arrows to see Author Metrics for different time frames like the past 7 days. When you’ve been on Bublish longer than 90 days, the number of views for the most recent 90-day period could be lower than the previous 90-day period. This makes it appear that you’re views have gone down. Be assured, they have not! Just click “full history” to see all your views.

Q: What are Profile Views and how are they different from Bubble Views?

Kathy: We believe strongly that every writer should build a brand around themselves in addition to their books. With this in mind, each premium author on Bublish gets an Author Profile like this one for award-winning author Mark David Gerson. Just like book bubbles, your Author Profile can be shared with one click across multiple social media sites. Readers can also click on the “view profile” icon to go from viewing a Book Bubble to viewing all your books and bubbles on your Author Profile. When people click on Author Profile links, they are recorded as Profile Views.

Q: What does the Conversion Metric mean on my Authorpreneur Dashboard?

Kathy: Ultimately, building an author platform is about finding your audience, building a fan community and selling more books. That’s why your Book Bubble and Author Profile include “calls to action”. Curious readers can visit your website, follow you on Bublish, like or comment on Facebook, and share your Bubbles and Profile.

One of those calls to action is the Buy Button. Readers who are ready to buy your book, can click the Buy Button and go directly to your book(s) product page at any of the major online retailers. Bublish works with Amazon, Barnes+Noble, Google Play, iBooks and Kobo (see image below). When a reader clicks the Buy Link and visits one of these retailers, that is recorded as a Conversion in your Author Metrics.
