If you build your Brand RAMP before you do anything else, you’ll be sure to come to mind when readers desire a book to read from your genre.
Since you can’t really predict when that need is going to occur — you want to position your author brand and books to come to mind when that time of need happens. This means either the reader will already know about you and think of your books when the need arises, or you will be recommend by other readers.
How do you do this? By building your Brand RAMP.
RAMP is an acronym for:
- Recognize — you need readers to recognize you and your author brand.
- Articulate — you need readers to be able to share what you write with others.
- Memorize — you want readers to be able to easily memorize what you do so it will come to mind when they desire your genre.
- Prefer — you want readers to prefer YOUR book over others.
Think about your end goal for just a second. You want readers to buy your book(s). But they can’t buy your book(s) if they don’t know you exist. This is why you need to work to get on the radar of prospective readers. (This is the R of the Brand RAMP —Recognition).
Of course, readers have to do more than recognize your name. They won’t buy if they don’t know what you write and how you draw your readers in on an adventure they won’t soon forget. (This is the A of the Brand RAMP — Articulate.)
If you can get existing readers to memorize what you do and prefer your books over others — you’ll continue to win prospective readers when they talk about their favorite books with others.
