The Prophecy: The Lucia Chronicles Book 1

Science Fiction & Fantasy

All Lucia Giroux has known her entire existence has been her idyllic life in Province 3. Lucia will follow in her Father’s footsteps and announce her choice as Record Keeper. As Lucia begins working in The Vaults, she’ll discover dark secrets and hidden dangers.

A Revelation

It isn't easy being seventeen and finding out you're the beacon of hope from a decades old prophecy. Here, I tried to capture both Lucia's anger and her frustration at finding out she is The Light. Lucia is caught between handling the news like an adult and acting out like a child at the revelation. With great power comes great responsibility.

What About Love?

In YA especially, who doesn't love a good romance? My sci-fi trilogy has a love triangle, which even becomes a love quadrilateral at one point (if we're talking in shapes). Love is what coming of age is all about, isn't it? Figuring out our place in the world, who we are as people, and consequently, the types of people we love. But more importantly, what is revealed about ourselves as a result of the types of people that we choose to love.

Worth the Risk

In this scene, Lucia is getting to know some members of the Dissentient and what exactly she is up against in joining the rebellion. How far will the Supreme Sovereign go to protect The Nation's way of life?

A Safe Place

Lucia's life has completely turned around and upside down after she finds out about The Prophecy. This scene is after a rescue mission and is a gentle exchange between Lucia and her little brother Nesus.

The Moment

Lucia's idyllic world is slowly beginning to unravel. She is learning that The Nation is full of hidden dangers and secrets, including her own identity. She's on the precipice of finding answers, and yet she questions whether it's better to stay ignorant or to pursue the truth. I think you can guess which path she decides to follow.

The Dissentient: The Lucia Chronicles Book 2

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Lucia must come to terms with her new role as the Light as she navigates the Dissentient, which seems to have its own agenda. The Supreme Sovereign is closing in and Lucia needs to accept her role in the Prophecy before more innocent lives are lost.

A Lucid Dream For Lucia

In this scene, the gang has reached the Dissentient and have to take on a vocation. Everyone has their role to play, not so different from the life in The Nation they just fled from. In order to see what role one should have, the Dissentient scientists induce lucid dreams. A lucid dream is one in which the dreamer gains control of their surroundings. Lucid dreams are something I've explored in The Lucia Chronicles and that I also explore in my upcoming series The Elementals. I've always been fascinated by dreams!

Young Love

In this scene Nic is about to undergo a dangerous mission. Lucia is feeling mixed emotions about her boyfriend leaving, just when it seems she needs him the most.

Who Am I?

Throughout The Lucia Chronicles, Lucia is on a quest to figure who she is and what exactly that means to the future of the Nation's citizens. And yet, the more she finds out, the more questions arise.Who is she? Who do people think she is? Is she still the same person, despite what she finds out about herself? These are questions we all begin to ask ourselves as we navigate through life.

The Girl Who Wasn't Loved: A Lucia Chronicles Novella

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Eve follows in her mother’s footsteps in order to become the Supreme Sovereign of The Nation, and will stop at nothing to rid its citizens of the pain she herself felt as an unloved child.

The Beginning of a Villain

The Girl Who Wasn't Loved tells the tale of The Lucia Chronicles' villain. It starts even before Eve was born. I wondered what made Eve so self-centered and so full of hate. As I explored, I realized sometimes we obsess about what we hate as much as about what we love. After all, a villain is just a misunderstood protagonist.

Inside the Mind of a Villain

I really wanted to tell Eve MalCouer's story. Why was she so cruel, but more importantly did she truly believe her deceptions and manipulations would save the very people she was meant to protect--the citizens of the Nation? I had to delve deep into Eve's subconscious and notice how both nature and nurture influenced her perspective of the world. I believe a villain is just a misunderstood protagonist, so here Eve is the shining star in her own spin-off novella.

The Beacon: The Lucia Chronicles Book 3

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Lucia, Nic, and Jack tell congruent stories of life in The Nation and in the Dissentient as everything reaches its boiling point and each must decide what they are willing to risk to save the lives of their fellow citizens from the Supreme Sovereign’s rule: Life, Love, or Truth.

Vates Secretus

This is the beginning of the final book in The Lucia Chronicles trilogy. Lucia's been captured by the Supreme Sovereign. She can wait for the men in her life to find her. Or she can bust herself out. Because it's already been seen, many years ago, by a Seer...who happened to be her great-grandmother. Lucia has come into her powers and now she's become the ultimate weapon to take down the Supreme Sovereign. It's all part of the plan. Not every damsel in distress needs a man to rescue her.

The Nothingness

In this passage Jack is experiencing something...is it death? We can't really be sure--yet. The Beacon is the conclusion to The Lucia Chronicles trilogy and offers the reader three unique first person perspectives (that of Lucia, Nic, and Jack) as well as a middle section told in the third person omniscient.

Powers of Love

Lucia Giroux is gifted with metaphysical powers, aka the Light, but that's not the reason why Nicolas Pernelli fell in love with her. The Beacon is the conclusion to The Lucia Chronicles trilogy and offers three perspectives: Lucia, her current love Nic, and her childhood love, Jack.

The Fractured Life of Jenny McClain

Literature & Fiction

Jenny McClain is broke. Single. And just plain stuck. Jenny McClain is about to turn thirty and, if she’s being honest, her life is pretty lame. Her love life is non-existent and her work as an artist is stalling; she hasn’t sold a painting in over a year. That’s when her best friend, Hadley, decides to intervene. She has an idea that will get Jenny unstuck: Regression Therapy. Somewhat reluctantly, Jenny agrees. After all, she doesn’t even believe in past lives. But suddenly, Jenny finds herself thrown into three very different existences: Adala—a young, nineteen-year-old WWII nurse, Menodora—a sixteen-year-old daughter of Atlantis, and Erin—a twenty-year-old Irish immigrant. The lives of these four women are intricately intertwined and soon Jenny finds herself looking to the past in order to heal her future.

Along the way she makes some unlikely allies and learns that she’s anything but ordinary.

Book Bubbles from Army of Fire

The Impossible Girl

Ka Waylon spends her days on Xon 9, wishing she weren't so ordinary. Little does she know that she is quite extraordinary. It's a very human emotion to want. Wanting to be prettier. Wanting to be smarter. Wanting to just be better than someone else, or anyone else. Be careful what you long for because you just might get it, and it might not be exactly what you hoped it would be. Possibly, you may find yourself wanting instead to be ordinary once again.

The Year The Sun Died

Science Fiction and Fantasy are so much fun because you can build entirely new worlds. What kind of events would precede Earth's end of days? The sun is a star. Science knows that all stars will eventually die. What will happen when our sun inevitably dies? Will we survive? If we do, where will we go and how will we get there? These are the types of questions that led me to create the planet Xon 9, the planet on which Ka lives and that has a unique physiological affect on its inhabitants.

Ordinary

This is the opening to chapter one of Army of Fire. Ka thinks she's painfully ordinary. Soon she'll learn that she's anything but. Be careful what you wish for.

The Earth Key

Teens

But her ambitions change when she discovers her mother fatally wounded. Soon, Ka is left reeling with the news of her mother’s true identity. The more she learns about her mother’s past, the more she learns about the Imminent Darkness and to what lengths it will go to restore the so-called balance to the Universe: Kidnapping. MindCleanse. Murder.

The Answers Lie In the Beginning

The Black Bazaar plays such an important role in Ka's journey. In this second book, she's struggling to come to terms with what it means to be the Impossible Girl of legend. Her fate was foretold by a Seer in the Black Bazaar. A place that used to generate fear and a bit of curiosity in Ka, is now one of the few safe havens available to her. But sometimes safety is only an illusion.

Genesis of Wood KINDLE

Ka Waylon is determined to retrieve the third stone which will restore her fractured personality: the Wood stone. Accompanied by her boyfriend, Sloan Braden, they travel back to the Elemental Abyss and to the Land of Wood where they quickly learn not everyone is to be trusted.

Book Bubbles from Genesis of Wood KINDLE

No Going Back

Ka's trip to the Land of Wood to retrieve the third Elemental stone is not going as planned. Almost, as soon as they arrived things started to go wrong. But if she wants to defeat the Imminent Darkness, then there's no going back.

Half-Immortal

Although Ka has now learned that she's half-immortal, Sloan is quick to remind her that immortal does not necessarily mean invincible.

Real World Problems

Xon 9 may be another world and Ka Waylon may be the Impossible Girl, but she still has the same problems as the rest of us. Saving the world aside. Life is all about balance, and that is a key theme that resonates throughout The Elementals Series.
