Eve follows in her mother’s footsteps in order to become the Supreme Sovereign of The Nation, and will stop at nothing to rid its citizens of the pain she herself felt as an unloved child.
I am a young adult sci-fi/fantasy author and children's book author and illustrator. I've been a middle school teacher for 8 years. When I'm not writing, I do yoga, eat gluten-free, and fangirl over Doctor Who.
The Girl Who Wasn't Loved tells the tale of The Lucia Chronicles' villain. It starts even before Eve was born. I wondered what made Eve so self-centered and so full of hate. As I explored, I realized sometimes we obsess about what we hate as much as about what we love. After all, a villain is just a misunderstood protagonist.

The Girl Who Wasn't Loved: A Lucia Chronicles Novella
What made Alva so special? Why did she get to have two parents who brought her to the playground? And what made Melmarie and Thomas want to be so nice to her? Didn’t she understand that this was Eve’s playground and Eve’s friends? The sun shone down warm on her black-haired head. She closed her eyes and turned her small round face up to the sunshine, feeling its gentle rays kissing her cheeks, like the kisses she longed for from her own mother. When she opened her eyes, she saw Thomas, Melmarie, and Alva swinging on the swing set, kicking their little legs high into the afternoon sky. There were only three swings. Not four. No swing for Eve. And that’s the day that Eve Malcouer decided she and Alva Barnes would not be friends after all.
