Young Iris longs for like-minded friends who value magic and the arts, especially since her twin brother joined the school bullies. She finds a key in a library book that lets her walk between worlds—out of her home in rural Florida in 1987 and into mythic lands of imagination. But will a sentient Shadow keep her from finding her purpose? Does she have what it takes to open the way for other seekers like her? Follow her epic quest through seven lands to complete her PRISM before it’s too late. Re-imagined myths & diverse identities come together with mythology, fantasy, and time travel on The Rainbow Path.
When you choose a name, it becomes part of you. I've carried the name Iris as part of me for so many years. It's definitely the rainbow. But it's more than just the rainbow. I loved this little part where I was able to get Van Gogh's "Irises" in and a little connection with Solomon Imaginoria.
The Land of Waves is one of the seven lands that Iris goes to on her quest, and I really live by the advice Waverly gives. It comes up over and over in my own life. Sometimes I just catch myself getting all caught up in the drama of something. And I have to think of how to let go and ride the waves.
I got interested in Greek mythology around middle school, and I remember asking a teacher these very same questions. I'm pretty sure the answer went something like this. (I'm not sure my teacher was quite as amazing as Ms. Asher in my actual life). But I was inspired to learn more about the Greek Gods and Goddesses because I felt like no one should be forgotten!
I never expected to write about frogs or flies, much less chocolate frogs... or chocolate flies! The Rainbow Path takes quite a bizarre journey, and the Frogpocalypse is only one of the odd stepzzz along the way.
I think a lot of times we are trying to come to terms with our family, even as adults. We choose who we are, even if we don't choose who our parents are. While this book is aimed for kids 9-12, a lot of adults will get something out of the story, especially parts like this.
Theatre is the backdrop of everything in my life. That's how I ended up eventually getting three college degrees in theatre. But when I was still young, it was even more all-encompassing. I think I saw everything through this lens.
