Didn’t anyone have any real questions? Did I have any questions? I always wanted to know more about ancient Greece and Rome. I tentatively raised my hand. “Yes, Iris?” Ms. Asher looked directly at me.
“Ms. Asher, every time I hear someone talk about these myths, it’s always completely in the past. Do people ever worship these gods and goddesses anymore?”
“First came Greece and then came Rome, and then the temples closed and fell to ruin when a new God came around,” she replied simply. “Greek Orthodox is the name of the game for hundreds of years now.”
“But that’s not fair to the old gods,” I replied. “Wouldn’t that hurt their feelings if no one believes in them anymore?”
“They’re just stories, Iris,” Jason blurted out. “The gods and goddesses in myths aren’t real. It’s not like they care what we think.”
“She’s so weird,” Meddy whispered to her friend Charissa. “She actually likes books and all this stupid stuff.”
“Weird is as weird does,” Ms. Asher responded. Did she hear Meddy? “The road to Hades is paved with goals not worth pursuing.”
