John glided his shot glass back over the edge of the bar. “I sense in you, Bob, not only a desire to know about prayer but a sincere desire to know more about God and your relationship with him. In fact, I sense a real thirst.”
“Ah, so that’s why you hang out in the Wick,” Bob joked, “to quench thirsts!”
John chuckled. “That’s pretty insightful—and also very true. But the thirst I am talking about is not a physical thirst.”
“Let me guess . . . a spiritual thirst?”
“Bingo!”
“So, tell me about this spiritual thirst,” Bob said, genuinely excited to hear more about John’s perspective on God.
“We are all thirsty!” John began. “Thirsty to feel God’s presence in our life. We come to many dry spots on our journeys—times when we may need help in making a major decision; times when we suffer or a loved one suffers; times of loss, loneliness, crisis; times when we question whether we’ve chosen the right path, whether we’ve performed the right actions in a given situation. These are times when we thirst for God’s guidance, direction, and comfort. We long for his peace.” He took a sip of his beer.
