He nodded and they immediately left the room. I tried to follow but found that my muscles lacked energy. It took a tremendous effort just to raise my arm to my head. Rhythmic waves of pain surged through it. Click. The door locked and I knew I wasn’t going anywhere.
Suddenly, I heard a small hiss from the corner of the room near the door. I strained to find the source. The sound emanated from a small vent close to the ground. I couldn’t see the gas but I knew it was swiftly filling the room. I smelled a slight foul odor and my vision started to blur.
“Dad? What is happening?” I screamed. I tried to get up but my muscles were still too tired. A rim of darkness in my peripheral vision grew and grew until it enveloped me and I was out.
