In the artistic world, it is those literary creations that demonstrate a measure of personal growth that magnifies those hurdles conquered - from darkness to survival, even her release from incarceration. While growing and blossoming, she has maintained a healthier lifestyle . . . staying free of unhealthy relationships. Through her experiences, Norstrom has encountered a complete metamorphosis ─ releasing one identity for another. Living inside this transitional lifestyle she states, “I see myself as that long-blooming, rich flower waiting to attract those butterflies. It is there, I’ve come full circle having realized the dangerous effects of toxicity."

The timing was right, with Christmas break less than two weeks away. She was eager and determined to return to school, and she vowed to make a speedy recovery.

For the next three weeks, we were faced with a battery of tests. But no test could compete with the hours China spent on a hospital cot, watching the machine spinning its wheels, draining marrow from her frail body. The harvesting process involved her being hooked up to a machine through a vein port: blood was slowly drawn into the machine, which then syphoned her marrow.

She required some form of anesthesia for the procedure. Since her cells had to be cancer-free, the cells were frozen until ready to be transfused into her body after receiving . . .
