Linc was tall, with beautiful dark skin, a mustache, and a muscular build; he was very handsome. You see, Marcus was his rival. He too played in a rock group. Matter of fact, he was a drummer and often did some lead singing. Back in the day, his group played onstage alongside the band Rufus, who sang with the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan. That’s the scene he was into! Linc was just as funky as Marcus.
I wondered if Marcus and I actually had any real romantic moments, or if it was just another rebound relationship. In the beginning, everything was smooth sailing. We couldn't get enough of one another. But life has its way of changing things as you go down the path. With the weird things Marcus was doing Marcus was doing, I started wondering if he was into drugs. His moods were pretty wild. He’d pace the floor back and forth. Many times he talked about putting voodoo spells on people and had become a total nightmare.
He'd say, “Look at us. We are so good for each other, baby.”
Then he’d trip and make jabbing comments about how I dressed. When Marcus showed his devilish side, I knew this wasn’t going to be a lasting relationship.
One scene lingers in my mind. One morning, I wore my sexy black and red mini dress. And I thought I looked rather charming. Marcus did a double take, his face wrinkled with jealousy.
He said, “Don’t think you’re going out wearing that slutty outfit.”
