At the counter, Mike spoke with the sales rep. “Yes, I’m back. I’ll take that ring now,” he told her.
She reached inside the glass case. My eyes widened and my brows rose.
I was totally surprised to see her pull out a diamond ring for a woman. The engagement setting was oval-shaped with diamond side stones that added sparkle. As he looked down at China with a big smile, Mike turned and looked at me.
Taking hold of my right hand, he said, “You’ve brought me joy and happiness. I can’t imagine spending my life without the two of you. Honey, will you take me as your husband?”
I took a deep breath, and exclaimed, “Oh my goodness!” After the initial
shock, I placed my hands on his cheeks, gently pulled his face to mine, and gave him one of the juiciest smacks right on his lips—and didn’t care who saw.
As he went to place the ring on my finger, the yeses came out. “Yes, yes. I will marry you,” I told him.
The way Mike proposed was pretty darn romantic. We chose November 3, 1983, as our date to tie the knot.
