It really does rain a lot in Washington!
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. So, I am familiar with rain. In fact, it wasn't until I moved to Colorado when I was 45 that I learned about sun! Well, I might be exaggerating just a bit, but I really did learn to do everything in the rain. When I rode my horse, I used a heavy rain poncho that covered me and the horse! If I didn't ride in the rain, I didn't ride. So, I decided to start PINTO! by poking a little fun at the weather, and I let Pinto do it for me. PINTO!, the story of the longest horseback ride in history, has won numerous literary wards and is perfect for middle-grade and up.

PINTO! Based Upon the True Story of the Longest Horseback Ride in History
Spring was coming. That is to say, the rain was getting warmer. Such was the only thing I was happy about. I was living in a poorly fenced paddock set far back from the road and partly concealed behind several of the thousands of giant Douglas Fir trees that covered the Pacific Northwest where I was born. The mud-soaked corral, in which I spent most of my time of late, was causing the frogs in the soles of my hooves to itch with thrush.
