Our good fortune did not continue, however. The men again had little luck selling cards in Topeka nor in the many small towns we passed. As we walked past a crowd of people in one of the many nondescript town squares in the center of an equally nondescript town, I heard someone shout, “Tramps on horseback, that’s a new stunt.”
I tossed my head, swished my tail, and stomped my hoof in disgust.
