Ladybug's delicate wings wilted, dripping with ooze. She grabbed the long root of a giant Cypress tree that was trailing from the ground into the water. With a great effort she climbed out of the water, too weak to use her wings. Lying on her back, with no strength to move, she looked up into the branches of the trees circling the lake.
She could see the same blue mold climbing the cypress trees that was climbing her beloved beech trees in The Enchanted Forest. She stood up, reciting all the fairy spells that she could remember, to summon her strength.
Ladybug turned around in circles, slowly at first. After awhile she started spinning. Around and around she went, flapping her wings to cast off the drops sticking to her. Finally, she was once again sparkly in an otherwise gloomy world, and ready to fly.
