They headed to the bar.
“Hi there,” Adam said as they approached.
“Hi Adam.” Wendy leaned over the bar and said quietly, “Three weeks before it closes. We hope you’ll have time to find something else.”
Adam’s response, “Don’t worry about me.”
Wendy remembered he didn’t like long term jobs.
Wendy pulled the sign out of the bag. “I’m going to post this.” She held it up under new management effective…and it gave the date.
“That’s clear,” Adam stated. “You want a drink, Jake?”
“Sure, thanks.”
With the scotch tape she brought she taped the sign inside of the front window. She walked over to the people she waved at. They chit-chatted and Wendy informed them what was about to happen.
“Oh, no,” Bonnie said. “But why? This place is rad.”
“Thanks. It may still be rad. My partner and I can’t give it the attention it needs but maybe the new owner will. Stop by the nursery and say hi anytime.” Most regulars knew about the nursery.
Their disappointment with the closure made Wendy sad. She moved away. She looked around and relived the entire Stan ordeal. Her mood went sour. She went and sat with Jake for a while as she sipped iced tea and visited with Adam.
The minute she got home she went straight for the weed, lit a ready-made joint, and sank into a living room chair. Her thoughts concentrated on how she failed with the business venture. There were such high hopes for it. To be scammed not only embarrassed her, but stole her confidence, although she didn’t have control over what had happened. She took a couple of hits of her joint, grabbed a quick bite and watched, Three’s Company. That show usually made her laugh…only tonight it didn’t.
The phone rang part way through Three’s Company, but she had no desire to talk to anyone. She wanted to be alone.
