The next day Claudia called. “Twelve other companies are putting together a design show at the Convention Center in downtown LA. I thought you might help with the patio design and the floral displays for the two rooms after I design the living room and dining room. What do you say?”
Wendy’s quick response, “I’d love to be involved. Thank you.”
“I shared some of your photos with other companies and they were impressed. No telling where it can lead.”
“Very nice of you. I appreciate it.”
“No problem, besides, we need expertise and talent to make our interiors and patios look great, so thanks for the yes. When can you come by and see my designs?”
“Hang on and I’ll get my calendar.” Wendy went to her office, grabbed the calendar and scurried back to the phone in the kitchen. “I can get away on Wednesday.”
“Okay, how ‘bout eleven?”
“I’ll be there, and thanks again.”
They hung up and Wendy whirled around with a huge grin. This was the type of creativeness she loved, and to do displays at the Convention Center, extraordinary. Instead of worrying about Elliott or Scott, or the Fireplace Grill, she could focus her attention on something completely different…the artistic challenge.
When Wendy arrived at the nursery, Carol stood at the counter writing up a sale. They exchanged quick greetings and Wendy waited anxiously while Carol finished the order.
“Thank you for visiting us,” Carol said as the customer turned to leave. “Please come back.”
“Oh, I will. I love to spend time here,” said the woman as she ambled away.
“Carol, you aren’t going to believe what I’m doing for Claudia, you know the woman who owns House Retreats.”
“I know you loved working with her.”
Wendy told her the story. Carol’s whole face lit up. “This should help with your frustration of not being able to do more here.”
“I think it might. I’ll meet with Claudia on Wednesday and see her designs and I can figure where I want things to go. This is so awesome.”
“It’s groovy.”
