As soon as she got home, she called and made the appointment with Dr. Lewis. Afterwards she got herself a glass of wine and sat on the living room chair concentrating on the unlit fireplace. She began to put her thoughts in order when the phone rang.
She set her glass down. “Hi Elliott.”
“How was your day?”
“Busy, but I took a break and drove to Malibu to let myself mellow.”
“Did it work?”
“Not entirely.”
“How ‘bout dinner and you can further mellow?”
Wendy laughed, “Sounds like a plan.”
“Okay. I’ll pick you up at six.”
With dinner two nights in a row and with all the attention he paid her…she knew he really loved her. He was expressive and smart. She helped him by listening and being there for him whenever he needed her. Still, something was bothering her, but what?
She got up, went to her study and pulled out some weed. She rolled a reefer and sat back in her swivel chair. She took a hit, and another. She inhaled deeply, letting the smoke out in one long exhale, as she enjoyed the almost instant relaxation.
From her bedroom window, she could see birds flying high above against the fluffy white clouds. She collapsed on the bed without any care whatsoever. She loved the blue ceiling, only it appeared more vivid than usual. She closed her eyes until it was time to shower.
