“A toast,” Cindy said when the drinks arrived. “To the new garden designer.”
“Thanks,” and she leaned toward Cindy to whisper, “I’m staying after tonight so Mike and I can celebrate.”
“That’s cool. Brad’s coming over tonight, if it’s an early close.”
Wendy and Cindy exchanged approving looks and tipped their glasses for a toast to Wendy’s new venture and their evening to come.
Cindy left early to get things ready in case Brad showed up. A slow evening on a Tuesday night was not unusual so Brad could leave and go with whomever he wanted. Tonight, Cindy, but Wendy wondered about the girl with the long brown hair who always stared with desirous eyes. A little while later Wendy went to the bar where Mike finished wiping it clean. At twelve forty-five the place emptied.
She sat and watched as Mike finished and came around to her with two filled glasses. Wendy had no idea what drinks he carried. She followed him to the same table where they sat previously.
“Give this a try, it’s a martini.” Mike said.
Wendy slowly sipped her new drink not knowing what the taste would be. She pulled the drink from her. “Love this drink, thanks, love the mild apple flavor.
“I’m glad. I’ve wondered what makes you keep coming back to Hoffman’s?”
“I like the atmosphere, the music, the camaraderie, the people. It’s a great escape.”
“How ‘bout Brad?”
“What about him?”
“You have the hots for him like the others?”
“I find him a great entertainer with a magnificent voice.” She didn’t quite answer the question, but at least she didn’t lie.
“You’re really bitchin.”
“Thanks. I like you too. You’ve been so kind and comforting to me. I appreciate our friendship.”
“I thought I’d put on some orchestrated music so we could dance if you want.”
Wendy hesitated for a second but nodded, “Okay.”
The same music played during Brad’s breaks.
The slow music soothed her. Mike wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her tightly, then pulled back and kissed her. His kisses were ardent and arousing. She needed him more than she realized, his caring and kindness comforting. They only danced to the one song.
“You’re such a treat for me. Listen, there’s an office on the other side of the tables with a comfy sofa.” He said as he pointed. “Interested?”
Without hesitation, “Sure.”
Wendy followed him into the office. The office wasn’t very big, but the brown suede sofa looked inviting.
This caring man, with a great personality, lived up to her expectations. His touches were ardent, in addition to great things he said to her, giving her an inner glow of being appreciated and desired. She ran her hands down his neck and back. Wendy moaned with every touch to her body. She cried out breathless in complete satisfaction.
When they sat up, she didn’t know what to say. “I see a fun relationship. What do you think?” Mike asked.” I’d like it too.”
