“I’m sorry, Cindy. Let’s enjoy listening to him like we always do. This is still a great experience. Look around…if it weren’t for Brad, we wouldn’t be here in this paradise.”
“I know, it’s nice, but...this is aggravating, but to be honest, I guess I’m not too surprised. He’s on vacation, sorta speak, and picked someone to be here during his down time. Just wish it had been me.”
“I’m really sorry,” Wendy repeated.
Brad started singing at eight. His strong voice caught everyone’s eyes. The sexy, dark-haired woman sat fully immersed in watching Brad. Cindy glared at her with disdain.
Despite Cindy’s frustration, Wendy loved the evening. She concentrated on Brad and his stupendous delivery of songs. She looked around and the people continued to watch him. She stared at Cindy watching her rival. ”I guess we both knew he wouldn’t come alone,” Wendy whispered.
“Yeah, no shit.”
On Brad’s first break he briefly talked to the dark-haired woman and walked around to visit with different people. His agent, Art Nash, who snuck in after Brad started to sing, stood at the back of the lounge. Brad talked to him. He eventually came over to Wendy and Cindy.
“Thanks for coming ladies.”
“You sound great. This room has good acoustics,” Cindy said as she hid her anguished voice.
“Thanks, have ta get back.”
Wendy and Cindy stayed the rest of the evening. Brad spent most of his next break again visiting others, ending up at the table with the dark-haired woman, for whom they had no name.
On his last break he came back to Wendy and Cindy for a short stop. “Who’s your friend?” Cindy didn’t mince words.
“Her name is Karen. She’s been to Hoffman’s.”
“We recognized her, but we didn’t know her name,” Wendy said.
“Now you do,” he smiled and returned for the last set.
The audience’s appreciation of his voice was obvious as they loudly applauded after each song. He was charismatic. He also made some funny comments as he often did at Hoffman’s. And the audience appreciated those with laughter.
After Brad finished, Wendy and Cindy returned to their room before he and Karen left. They speculated about his relationship with her, but no way existed to know how special she might be to him, or if she was just one of his ‘girls. ’
“I sincerely doubt she’s his favorite, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens when we get back. She is stunning.”
“True,” Cindy admitted.
