She turned on the lights and the waterfall switch as she entered The Shade House. The completed look made her ecstatic. It was everything Wendy wanted it to be. She watched the water drop into the stream and move through the pond. She roamed around the entire nursery and stopped occasionally to change the position of plants. The pale green walls were a good choice. The plants were prominent.
Her energy surged. The wait for her dream to be completed ended. Wendy picked up the remaining plants sitting on the ground below the pond. Along the inside ledge of the pond, she intermittently placed an array of plants including begonias, streptocarpus, bromeliads, and more ferns. She loved the small red, pink, and white flowers on the different wax begonias. She held up one of the four-inch pink begonias and admired the color against its bronze leaves, finally setting it down. The begonias brought variety to all the green plants, along with the variegated and wavy leaves of the begonias, and the colorful red, gold, and green leafed crotons. Plants on top of the rocks lined the stream and at the head of the waterfall stood one of the colorful crotons. She moved to the front of the counter. She looked at the start of the two main concrete pathways that went around the nursery. The small white gazebo, built to Wendy’s specifications, separated the beginning of the two paths just like she planned. Different hanging plants lined different paths, among them were pothos, donkey tails, fuchsias, all extended from hooks. Her thoughts were stopped by a knock on the door. It had to be Marty and she couldn’t wait to hear his opinion of the nursery.
“Hi Marty,” she greeted him as she opened the door.
“Hi, I love the outside with the vines, a very woodsy look.” As soon as he came inside, he looked around and gasped. “Wow, it’s bigger than I thought and beautifully done.”
“Thanks, glad you like it. Want to walk around?”
“Sure.”
As they made their way around the nursery Marty stopped and asked questions about different plants. They ended up by the waterfall.
He looked at her and asked, “Is this your dream come true?”
Wendy grinned ear to ear. “It is. I have a greenhouse at home, but it isn’t big. Since I like plants so much this seemed like an even better way to enjoy them. Now it’s done and it’s all I imagined and more.”
Marty took a long look around. “You’re very creative. The place is exceptional, very unique. People will love to come here because it’s like an escape from reality.”
