When Wendy arrived home, she called her cousin Jake. She knew he’d want to know about her new endeavor. Although twelve years older than Wendy he had always been like a big brother to her. Although divorced with a son teaching at the University of California at Berkeley, he enjoyed his life. The one person she went to when her mom died, Jake. Her dad had his own issues. Jake liked gardening and when Wendy bought or planted something new he stopped by to see about new happenings in the greenhouse and outside of it. After her dad died a few years ago Jake remained there for her.
“Jake, I wanted to tell you I bought a building in Santa Monica and I’m going to turn it into an indoor shade plant nursery.”
“That’s wonderful, Wendy. What a marvelous idea, something you love to do. You were so excited to plant the ficus tree in your backyard, so you could have more shade, now you can have a whole building with shade. I’m thrilled for you.”
“Thanks. I’m thrilled too.”
“I can tell from your voice. You will let me know if you need any help, right?”
“Yes, thank you, but I think I’ll have it covered with my friends.”
“Okay but keep me posted about its progress and for sure let me know when it opens, and I’ll be there in no time.”
“I will, thanks.”
“Your folks would be so happy for you.”
“I think so. I’ll call you.”
“Good. Bye, dear.”
Jake’s enthusiasm added to the thrill of her moving on. Having his support was important to her.
