Luke 7:13
When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. "Don't cry!" he said.
Beloved: Lord, when I hear of disasters and heartbreaking situations, I feel a moment of compassion and then harden my heart. I can’t help all, so I end up helping almost none.
Lover: Even when I walked the earth, I couldn’t rescue everyone. I moved around to help many, but people became ill and died after I left a place or before I arrived. That’s why the Holy Spirit had to come, to be in many places at once—and for the body of Christ—the church—to be My hands and feet. Listen to My promptings, and I’ll show you where to act and what to do.
2Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law. 3If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived. 4Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. 5Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life 8.… But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
9So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. 10Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.
