Practicing Abundance
A good way to find out where your energy is frozen is to create a list of 10 or 100 things you would like to be, do and/or have in your life. This list can include major things like your ‘bucket list’ of things you want to do before you die. It can also include simple things like having a clear desk, organized closet or special meal.
Do this quickly. It doesn’t need to take longer than 30 minutes.
(We disagree a bit about this process, so you can choose your own number. Willem believes this exercise needs a list of only 10 items while Laurie thinks a list of 100 items is more valuable. Try it each way if you like, and let us know what works for you.)
First, take some lined paper and number each line from 1 to 10 or 1 to 100. Sit down and write as fast as you can, one item on a line without thinking about it very much. It’s okay if you repeat yourself—that just means the item is particularly important to you.
Now study your list carefully. Observe and make notes of your own thoughts: Why is it difficult for you to have this? Each of these thoughts may represent a place where energy is stuck.
You may also explore how you’ve been procrastinating in your financial life. We are focusing on finances here, but it could be in any other area of your life, as well.
