One day, a girl in a plaid dress with long, dark hair walked by on the sidewalk. He watched her until she was out of his sight. He knew he had to meet her but had no idea who she was or anything else about her.
A few months later, a friend of my dad’s invited him to the movies on a Sunday afternoon.
“He was meeting a girl he liked at the movie theater downtown and wanted me to go with him. He said the girl was bringing a friend but I had no idea who it was,” said dad.
They arrived at the theater about a block down from my dad’s apartment he shared with Grandpa Nick and waited in the lobby for the girls to arrive. As the two girls, decked out in poodle skirts and blouses, made their way through the large glass doors, my dad could not believe his luck. The friend of the girl his friend fancied was the girl with the long, dark hair. She had green eyes and the message the fortune teller in Greece gave him a few years before was not lost on him. This was the woman he was to one day marry.
