Summer was coming on. Max met Margaret at Franklin Simon after work and they walked down to Union Square together. Max bought a lipstick while she was waiting for Margaret and they both tried it out. Margaret carried a compact. They were thinking about the Armenian place next to Ohrbach’s but weren’t very hungry.
It was not so warm yet but warm enough to remind you how warm it would get in a week or two and there goes your appetite pronto. Instead they talked over going to Provincetown again. Margaret, for her part, could not decide. On the one hand the store cut her hours for July and August, so she might as well take the furlough. On the other hand leaving her boyfriend off the leash for two months might well result in him acquiring another social disease. He had a knack for this. As for Max it had more to do with Tony who had been released from Pilgrim State and was on the loose.
