With a groan, I lean my head back against the wall. “What am I doing here, Josh?”
“Having fun?”
“I’m not, though. I’m thirty-nine years old. I bet you didn’t know that. Hell, I’m almost forty. I’m too old for this shit.”
His arm slides around my shoulder, easing me off the brick. “You want to get out of here?”
I turn away from him, stumbling a couple steps. At this rate, I’ll be on the ground in no time. “How are you here? You had to have better plans tonight.”
“You texted. Well, I thought you did. I thought…you might need me.”
I pivot back in his direction. There’s something so earnest about his words. Could he actually be for real? With a laugh, I move closer, tapping him on the chest with my finger and holding back a rising desire to fan out my hand and rub him all over his body. “You’re like a knight in shining armor, you know that? Riding in to save me from a night of drunkenness and sin.”
Josh’s arm loops around me again, turning me in the direction of the exit. “I’m going to forget I heard that last part of your statement. But Addy, maybe you need a knight in shining armor.”
