It’s Really Cool … To Be a Squirrel!
It’s really cool to be a Squirrel,
With tails like flags which we love to unfurl.
We feast every day on fruits and on nuts.
They taste the very best … no ifs, ands or buts!
I race down and up the trees with my mate.
We will revisit branches where we just ate,
To check if we missed some edible thing,
When we passed by, on our first morning swing.
Our road is fence, roof and a leafy, tree skyway,
Leaping yard to yard, tree to tree as we play,
Visiting friends and family, near and afar.
Each day we will see them; that’s just about par.
In summer, when fruit’s ripe and very delicious,
Summer parties and feasts are truly auspicious.
Apricots, peaches, apples and plums,
Always at our table there’s a chorus of “Yums.”
With winter’s snow, there are no fruits and no nuts,
But stored in the cellar, all that’s needed, stuff ‘n such,
To keep us fed and at home, as I’ve said,
We snuggle together, tails as cover and as a bed.
Life for us is tough yes, but also it’s fun.
We must watch for hawks, and from cats we do run!
For us, life is often―no, always―a whirl.
It’s still really cool … to be a Squirrel.
