Narwhale
It’s Really Cool … To Be a Narwhale!
It’s really cool … to be a Narwhale.
I live up North; in Arctic waters, I sail.
What sets me apart is a really long horn.
My fantasy label: a sea-going unicorn.
No, no, not true, I’m not a Seahorse;
I’m a whale member of a species tour-de-force.
We’re the largest creatures ever seen on earth;
I’ve cousins with incredible length and huge girth.
My horn is really a tooth―a tooth grown long;
Our appearance, the subject of Scandinavian song.
“Nar” means “corpse,” from the ancient Norwegian.
The tales of our paleness are truly quite legion.
Our horn, we males will use for fighting;
We’ll mix it up when there’s a female sighting.
But deadly we’re not, just mating-season witless.
It’s that Darwinian process, deciding the fittest.
Arctic waters for humans are truly quite rigorous;
To survive, immersed, you’ll need methods quite vigorous.
