Boring speeches suck, pure and simple. The last thing you should do is stand behind a lectern and just talk—worse yet, read what you wrote. Now, if you have a physical limitation, you may be limited in movement on a stage. Other than that, you need to pepper your talk. Think the five senses: seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, and touching. You can have actual visuals that display any one of them, but so can descriptive words. But for me, visuals are essential.
