Don’t Get Duped by “Self-Publishing” Companies
OK, my heart bleeds (yes it does—not to mention how ticked off I get) for the countless naïve authors who get sucked into these contracts. You pay moneys up front—often in the hundreds, then the cash register starts to vibrate—meaning your credit card. You need editing—you need illustrations—you need a press release—you need marketing—you need _____________. By the time you are done, your “all it costs is $597 to publish your book” is now in the thousands and the results … well, they are usually so-so at best and usually mediocre from the very beginning.
TIP: A book of any quality—I don’t care if it’s an “eBook” or print—print doesn’t cost a few hundred bucks to create. Editing costs money. You shouldn’t side step it. Your cover design should not look like your cousin Sammy did it; and your reader deserves an interior design that is appealing. Your book is an investment in YOU and your WORDS. Get educated.
