“A college degree is my ticket out,” exclaimed Robin. “Nothing is going to get in the way of good grades for me, even if it means that all I ever get to do is work and study.”
“Ticket out of where?” asked Leslie.
“My old life. I grew up in the dumps in Chicago,” Robin explained. “Before I left, I realized what a bunch of losers my friends at home are… were. I went to say goodbye to them and ended up walking away for good. They couldn’t have cared less that I was leaving. Gram put all she had into making sure I understood how important education is. There’s no way I’ll disappoint her.”
