“The test questions might as well have been written in Greek! I waited too long to start studying.” She unfolded the paper revealing the red “F” in the upper right corner. Devastation washed over her, and she hurried from the lab before she burst into tears. In the dorm, tears blurred her vision and a torrent of thoughts spilled over one another. “I’ve only got six weeks left before finals and I’m failing.”
Robin found Frannie curled up on her bed, mired in self-pity. “C’mon,” she said softly but firmly. “We need to fix this.”
Frannie turned away and buried her face in her pillow. “It’s OK, Robin. Go to lunch. I’ll figure it out.”
“No, we’ll figure it out.” Robin rolled Frannie toward her. “Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to bring things into focus. I oughta know.”
