“Welcome to nursing, Katie. Everything is stacked against smooth sailing. For starters, patient care is a team effort, so there’ll always be other disciplines that need access to your patient. Add to that, that patients are people, not machines, and no two of them are alike. That means that all your careful planning has to be adjusted to the individual.”

“You have to redefine what being “on top of things” means, Katie. It took me a while to realize that it doesn’t mean being in charge of anything. Clinicals introduce you to the real world and give you a chance to acclimate to thinking on your feet.
