Sam and Joe were already under the hood inspecting the engine. “You done good, Dad,” Joe said in his slow drawl. “Engine’s clean as a whistle.”
“Yep,” Mr. Grayfox nodded. “Low mileage, too.”
“A Chevy man all the way!” said Sam, slapping his Dad on the back.
Katie sat behind the wheel. “Let’s go for a spin.”
With lunch forgotten, all six piled into the car. Katie pulled out of the yard and onto the road, picking up speed, the breeze from the open windows blowing through her long black hair.
