Robin jumped from the bus and hurried toward the park. “Mom will see how great it will be for all of us to be together in Dallas.” Her smile faded as she scanned the empty park benches. “Did she get cold feet? Could she be stuck because that shithead’s still at home?”
She started off in the direction of her mother’s house, then stopped in her tracks. “What am I doing? I can’t show up there.” Robin reversed her steps, then dropped dejectedly onto a bench. She fidgeted for nearly an hour, then rose and trudged toward the bus stop.
