“Mother and I spent the summer in Atlantic City. We rent a house on the beach. Daddy came weekends, then for one whole week. Look how tan I got. I hope it lasts. How long do you think a tan will last? I had to buy all new makeup because my regular shades were way too light.”
“Enough about tanning, for pity sake! You look great. Can we talk about something meaningful? Did you do anything this summer but lie on the beach?”
Crestfallen, Frannie stammered, “No, not really. Mother and I did get in a lot of shopping and I read a few romance novels.”
Robin rolled her eyes.
