“It’s so good to see you after all these years,” she said. “You look well.”
Becky was at a loss for words. She felt the emotion starting to well up inside her. Tears started to form around her eyes and Louise reached out and lightly brushed them away.
“I’m afraid we were having a laugh at your expense,” Louise said. “I was telling everyone how you and Jonny used to fight when the families got together. How are you, dear?”
Louise held Becky by both shoulders looking at her. Becky was dressed in a comfortable pantsuit and white blouse. Her dark brown hair was cut close to her head and shoulders and accented her eyes. She was slender and trim at forty-three years old. Both women were about the same height and build and embraced each other for a few moments.
“Louise, I never did get a chance to thank you for all you did to help Mom when I was in the hospital,” said Becky. “I feel foolish thanking you after all these years.”
“Nonsense, child, that’s what friendship’s all about. Mary was there more than once for me. Besides,” Louise looked at Sarah, “that trip to the hospital was worth it.”
Sarah blushed.
“Yeah, it was,” replied Becky looking at her daughter. “It sure was worth it.”
