“Is everything all right?” There was a tenderness and concern in her voice that reminded Ray of her mother.
Ray smiled. “I’m fine kiddo, just couldn’t sleep.”
“Is that all?”
“No, your dad and I had a bit too much to drink. That’s not helping matters any.”
Becky laughed as she turned to her daughter. “You go to bed, sweetheart. I’m going to stay and talk to Uncle Ray for a few minutes.”
“Sure thing, Mom.”
She gave her mother a kiss on the cheek and then walked over to Ray, bent down kissing him on the cheek as well.
“Good night, Uncle Ray. Sleep well.”
She turned, walking away disappearing into the house.
“Well,” started Becky as she sat down next to Ray, “why can’t we sleep. Can’t be the liquor because that usually puts all of us to sleep. Maybe the excitement?”
Ray smiled and thought back to days when he would not have believed they would live to see their children or grandchildren. Bill had Becky and Kevin and three grandchildren. He and Louise had Jon, Matthew, and Julie and seven grandchildren. Life had certainly changed in fifty years.
