Rebecca, or Becky as she preferred to be called, reached into the car, and pulled out her bag. She guessed they would be at the pool. She walked through the gate of the high stockade fence and headed around the garage towards the pool. Dr. Rebecca O’Keefe, MD was a well-respected general practitioner who maintained an office in downtown Los Angeles. She spent a great deal of her time working in the emergency room of St. Margaret Mary’s Hospital treating people in their street clinic. Her reputation was that of an honest and tough lady. As a professional, she was always calm, quiet, detached, and in control.
Becky O’Keefe, the person, was completely different. She was always a forceful person, as well as a bit of a rebel. With her father a professional soldier and very much a part of the establishment, she actively protested the war in Vietnam. Her sympathies were with the counterculture of the time, putting her at odds with the rest of the family. She married Patrick O’Keefe, an Irish national, because her father didn’t like him. She found him exciting to be around and enjoyed being the rebel of the family, taking his side against her father.
