Have we become desensitized?
We live in an era of instant news, instant gratification, instant entertainment, pretty much instant everything. This clip could have come off of any daily news feed that we follow today. When I wrote this its purpose was to reflect just that, but it's part of a novel. A work of fiction. It didn't really happen. It's not one of those sensationalized events meant to draw in viewers, spread fear and distrust, or bring the public's emotions to the surface. Thanks to all those first responders who protect us and help keep us safe. Thanks to the responsible media outlets that keep stories to just the facts and don't sensationalize to increase ratings. And finally, thanks to all of you who keep a cool head and don't overreact and believe everything put out there by those who would manipulate us. The Retirement
The Joint Weapons Task Force consisted of agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, investigators from the New York City Police Department, and the New York State Police. Their mission was to intercept weapons and explosives entering the country through the Port of New York and build criminal cases against those involved. The previous night, a New York City Transit officer had made a routine stop at Kennedy Airport, stumbling onto an explosive smuggling operation. Two suspects were taken into custody by the officer and his partner, and the NYPD called the task force due to the involvement of military-grade explosives. When the suspects resisted, one of the transit officers ended up in the hospital. Backup arrived quickly, subduing the two men who were still resisting when brought into the building.
