“Who’s dead, dear?”
The expression on O’Leary’s face scared Nancy. Her eyes got big and round with anger. If the light were better, she guessed the senator would be flushed with color. O’Leary wiped the tears away again and whispered, “Jon’s dead! Your husband is dead. Don’t you feel anything?”
Nancy guessed the look on her face must have been one of shock. She had forgotten O’Leary once tried to seduce her husband and guessed the woman didn’t know he told her about it. O’Leary obviously wasn’t over the relationship from the summer Jon was at the Naval Academy as acting superintendent. O’Leary went along on several adventures with Jon while hunting a vicious serial killer stalking the Chesapeake Bay area. Jon was a guest on her sailing yacht when O’Leary tried to seduce him in the shower. Nancy knew her husband could resist most anything, but she was truly amazed he managed to resist O’Leary’s advances. She was a beautiful and determined woman who was used to getting what she wanted. That was probably why she still felt the way she did. Jon was the one that got away.
Nancy glanced at Ericson, who gave her a look indicating she shouldn’t answer the question. She flashed him her best go to hell look, focusing on O’Leary.
“Look, Amy, I know about you trying to seduce Jon back in Annapolis . . .”
“Oh my God!” blurted out O’Leary in a raised whisper. Behind Nancy, Sarah chuckled out loud. O’Leary’s look of anger was replaced by one of fear.
