Loggar studied Collins face for a long moment. “How come you never formed your own circle aboard the Johnson? Everyone I’ve asked tells me you’re the ship’s Goddess.”
Collins welcomed the break and happy to discuss something she didn’t have to lie about. “I didn’t know I was thought of as the ship’s Goddess until a few hours ago.”
“Excuse me?”
“I didn’t know.”
Loggar frowned.
“Circles are not very common on board a battle cruiser. Yes, there are a few ship deck ones, and the Most High members are pretty good at keeping things on the down-low. So, no, I didn’t know I was the ship’s Goddess, so therefore I never formed my own circle, and I never saw a reason to join any of the lower rank circles, either. Having done so would have changed the dynamics as well as my role as the Ship’s Doctor and Counselor. Besides, being part of yours would have immediately made mine irrelevant.”
Loggar nodded. “Tea, please.”
Collins smiled. “Sugar or plain?”
Loggar leaned forward, “Sugar, please. Very sweet.”
Collins got up and made Earl Gray. She dropped in several sweet pellets. She poured herself a cup of Zen Calm, walked back to her desk and handed Loggar the tea.
Loggar sipped, “Very nice.”
Collins sat back and relaxed. “I accept by the way.”
“My circle?”
Collins nodded.
Loggar smiled and took another sip. On her third sip of tea Loggar asked, “Any thought on who else may join, should join?”
“Dawn.”
“I like the Commander. She’s got spirit. I was thinking of keeping the Circle small. I’m not sure adding men would be a good idea . . .”
Collins nodded, “There can only be one big cock in the hen house.”
“ . . . Sean said he experimented in his youth, but I think he’s wholly heterosexual.” Loggar giggled, “You’re right about that. Sean is strong, but not terribly tough when it may come to sharing. I don’t want to take the chance, but if we were to have men, who?”
“Part of the Command Staff. Kirkland and Foster. Kirkland’s a cunt hound, Foster is a gentleman. I’d add Cookie. He’s pan sexual, but also a gentleman. No one from Engineering.”
Loggar listened. She loved Cookie’s recipes and was surprised to know he was pan sexual, but it made sense. He had that kind of spirit. She could see it. Kirkland she knew was a hunter. He was competitive and hyper-sexual. She got that the first day on board the Johnson. Foster was introspective. That would add greatly to the circle, she thought.
“What about your staff?”
Loggar laughed. “What about them?”
“None are worthy of your circle?”
Loggar ignored the underlining tone, “Not for the Johnson. They’ll stay my command staff as Sean has you and the others as his.” She rubbed the back of her neck, “Don’t get me wrong. Herb and Milkens are brilliant, but a little too immature and undisciplined. They both hyper-focus on function, not execution. And, I’m not physically attracted to them.”
Collins nodded. “And, me? Or Dawn?”
Loggar placed the cup of tea down and walked over to Collins. “You’re very lovely, Karen. Wish I had your natural color hair.”
Collins leaned back in her chair. She thought, ‘Kathy is going to be aggressive by leaning down and kissing me or she’ll drop down on her knees and kiss me.’
Loggar reached down offering her hands. She thought, ‘Either she’ll take my hands and pull me down or she’ll let me help her up.’
Collins thought control. ‘She’s seeing how I handle control.’ Collins accepted Loggar’s outstretched hands and lifted herself up.
