This leaves me as the last resort for my grandchildren to have stability, nurturing, and safety. I do not have a steady income because I write for a living these days. I cannot just sit by, leaving my grandchildren with Ida, who is teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown. They do not deserve to be in that environment. I am sure that every time she looks at them she sees her daughter's face as the rage is bubbling inside of her. I cannot take a gamble that she is not going to just wake up one more and call child protective services to come and collect the grandchildren. They are already traumatized from all that they have experienced in the care of their mother. Sure my situation is not conducive to having toddlers twenty-four hours a day but I would make do.
