Watching Matt and Chuck talk over burgers at the bowling alley was a joy for Marti. She had never seen him with children before and he was patient at getting Matt to talk about school. Marti noticed Matt was wearing his shark tooth necklace. She had to ask one question out of curiosity, "I hear you got a remote helicopter for your birthday, Matt. My brothers used to have one. How do you like flying it?"
"I'm still learning. It's a lot harder than it looks. Sam spends a little time with me in the backyard every week. I can make it hover but Sam takes over when it's time to fly."
"Would you guys like to do pinball first before the teenagers arrive?" asked Marti as they finished dinner. "I can't wait to watch you both in action."
"What do you think, Matt?" Chuck asked as they walked to the arcade area. "I could reserve a lane now so it would be waiting for us in a half-hour."
Walking into game room, Marti heard the noise of the machines and the lights flashing. Matt ran to his favorite machine, "Sure, we can play now. Remember I won a free game on this one last time."
Marti stood back and watched the boys compete. Matt was quick but Chuck had more power to hit the ball hard. Cheering for both of them, she got completely caught up in the excitement. At the end of the game, Matt hugged Chuck, "Thanks for not letting me win. That would have been too easy."
