A strong gust of wind suddenly blew through the valley; flinging the girls sideways, narrowly missing a tree “Wow! What’s up with this weather?” grumbled Heather, leaning into the blustery headwind. “It seems determined to push us backwards!” As abruptly as the wind had swept in, it ceased. Heather and Bryony, shot forward, narrowly missing bumping into the back of their colleagues.
“Sorry!” Bryony said as they passed, then turned back to Heather. “Did you get caught out in the rain this morning it?”
“Luckily, no; I’d just stopped off for a drink. I swear I didn’t see a cloud in the sky just seconds before. Did you?”
“No, not a single one,” agreed Bryony. “It swept in so fast, like the wind just now. I’m glad it only lasted a few seconds otherwise I’d have been drenched.”
“The plants seem to be feeling it too; they’re really sickly. The worrying thing is that no one has any idea what’s wrong with them, and nothing we try seems to make any difference. If things don’t change soon we’re going to be in big trouble,” grimaced Heather.
“Hmm, Earth too,” Bryony said. “Queen Tara was reminding us again just last week how Serenia is its lifeblood. The humans must be noticing changes in weather patterns by now.”
“Apparently the humans call it ‘Global Warming' – whatever they mean by that! Well, at least they’re lucky in that they have no real idea just how serious this could be. And I don’t envy Queen Tara having the responsibility for our survival, as well as theirs! I’m sure all this started the same time as Nightshade began playing up.”
