Corbett looked up, slightly annoyed, and motioned for the young man to enter. “Come in. Have a seat. We have all day but I don’t want things to go that long.”
“Sir?” Williams asked, confused at the statement.
“Did I not make myself clear? Have I made a mistake in promoting you? Come in, sit down and give me your immediate attention. Now!”
“Yes sir!” Williams ran into the room and sat at the table. He was just new enough that he was impressed by the lavish surrounding and grinned openly at the fact that he could see himself in the tabletop. He looked at Corbett and smiled. He was young and looked almost boyish.
“Williams, you know everyone at this table, do you not?” Corbett looked bored.
“Yes sir!” Williams glanced quickly at the bedraggled men assembled at the table.
“And Williams, you understand that I just fired someone?”
