Julie cleaned off her desk and looked around to see if she had forgotten anything. When she was convinced that everything was where it should be, she looked at a waiting Doni and asked, “Who’s ready for pizza night?”
Doni jumped up and down and raised her hand. “Oh, me! Me! I want to go to pizza night!”
Julie pretended to look around the room. “Hmm,” she said. “I’m not seeing anyone who really wants to go to get pizza. I might have to go by myself.”
“Mom!” Doni said loudly, “Right here! I want to go with you!”
“Oh, Doni!” she said, and pointed to her teasingly. “I’m glad that you said something. I was really hoping that you wanted to go.”
“Mom,” Doni whined, “of course I want to go.”
“Then I guess we’d better get going,” Julie said smiling, and touched her on the nose with her finger.
