“Let me try,” Tom said. “What’s his phone number?”
The woman smiled and said, “One, two, send.”
“I’m sorry?” Tom asked, confused.
“That’s what I always push on my phone; one, two and then send. It calls him right away.”
“Ah,” Tom said, putting his phone away. “Speed dial no doubt. Do you happen to remember the actual number of his phone?”
“Oh, I’m afraid not,” the woman said. “A woman of my age can barely remember events from one day to the next. That’s why it was programmed into my phone. I just need to get my tire changed and then I can be on my way.”
Tom sighed again. “I’m sure that I can help you,” he said, “it shouldn’t take too long. Do you have a spare tire and a jack?”
“I think I have a spare tire, but I’m not sure about the jack. What would it look like?”
